Apple Wins Legal Victory in iCloud Storage Lawsuit
A US appeals court has ruled in favor of Apple, dismissing a lawsuit alleging deceptive practices regarding iCloud storage. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously upheld the dismissal, stating Apple's descriptions of its iCloud+ plans were not misleading.
Plaintiff Lisa Bodenburg claimed she expected 205GB total storage when subscribing to Apple's 200GB plan, believing it WOULD supplement the free 5GB tier. The court found Apple's marketing clearly described the paid storage as incremental, with Judge Milan Smith noting "reasonable consumers" wouldn't be deceived.
The decision references similar dismissed cases involving Diet Dr. Pepper and lip balm packaging, reinforcing that companies aren't liable for unreasonable consumer interpretations. This legal win comes as Apple faces separate scrutiny over alleged misrepresentations to investors about Siri's development timeline.
